Advocating vulnerable groups’ rights through a stronger civil society in Uzbekistan
AFEW International, in partnership with ISHONCH VA HAYOT, and with financial support from the European Union, is implementing the program “Advocating vulnerable groups’ rights through a stronger civil society in Uzbekistan”.
The project is dedicated to empowering underserved groups in Uzbekistan, such as people vulnerable to discrimination – women, people with disabilities, people living with or at high risk of HIV and migrants, and to protecting their rights and freedoms through strengthening and building local CSOs’ own organisations and capacities, thereby strengthening civil society in Uzbekistan.
The expected outputs of activities:
1.Thirty CSOs are trained on strategic organisational capabilities linked to advocacy, project development, monitoring & evaluation, fundraising and communication, and community-based participatory research (CBPR);
2.These CSOs are specifically trained to deal with restrictions due to Covid-19 (digital working/outreach, promoting hygienic measures to final beneficiaries, referral to medical and social emergency services);
3. Small grants are made available to CSOs to enable them to build and strengthen these key organisational capacities;
4. Potential for advocacy through CBPR and other capacities is assessed and shared amongst CSOs and their constituencies’ representatives;
5. Linking, learning and coalition building are offered to CSOs with similar organisations in Eastern Europe and Central Asia;
6.Dialogue between CSOs and relevant government agencies is facilitated on building confidence and developing joint strategies to improve implementation of marginalised/vulnerable groups’ rights.
By giving voice to vulnerable groups and seeking to participate in decision-making, the project contributes to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 16 on developing an inclusive society and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions.
