Ukraine’s Parliament passed amendments to the Labor Code on November 12 removing discrimination over sexual orientation and gender identity, political and religious beliefs at workplace.
The voting was difficult, requiring six rounds and consultations among political parties, Ukraine’s weekly Kyiv Post reports. The paper points that these amendments were among a few others required by the European Union’s visa liberation action plan.
“This is a big step forward to ensure that people representing the LGBTI community have equal rights to labor,” said Elena Voskresenskaya, director of International Charitable Foundation “AIDS Foundation East-West in Ukraine”.
