AFEW International joined a major mobilization campaign #Treatment4all by association Solidarité Sida, which aims to raise awareness among the general public and challenge political decision-makers about the urgent need to take action against the three major pandemics.
On the 10th of October 2019, France will host the Global Fund replenishment conference, where Heads of States of the main donor countries will announce their contributions. It is a unique opportunity to mobilize for a major challenge: since the Global Fund was created in 2002, more than 27 million lives have been saved, but major pandemics are still one of the most striking examples of global inequalities. The objective to end major pandemics by 2030 can only be achieved with a significant ramping-up of international action. The recent rise in infection rates in the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia shows that current funding cannot eradicate the three pandemics, nor even contain them, and that the situation will worsen without additional contributions. The Global Fund has estimated that a minimum of 14 billion USD is necessary in order to accelerate work to fight Aids, TB and Malaria over the next three years.
In light of the replenishment this year of the Global Fund for the Fight against Aids, TB and Malaria (GFATM), each donor country will have to state their pledge for the next three years. Solidarité Sida and its many partners all over the world call upon the leaders of richest countries to make every effort to reach the GFATM replenishment target of at least 14 billion dollars.
Goals of the campaign:
- To promote an increase in contributions from donor countries to the Global Fund.
- To ensure better visibility and understanding of health pandemics and the impact of the Global Fund’s work, particularly in developing countries.
- To create a public movement supporting the flight against pandemics, France’s leadership on global health and the fight against Aids.
