On 8–9 June 2026, the Republican NGO “ISHONCH VA HAYOT”, in partnership with AFEW International and with financial support from the European Union, conducted a two-day ABCD training titled “Activate Yourself” in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The training was organized within the framework of the programme to reduce stigma and discrimination, promote gender equality, empower women and young people, and strengthen the role of communities in creating sustainable social change.
The event took place at Asia Tashkent Hotel and brought together 19 participants, including community representatives, activists, and leaders of grassroots initiatives. The training was facilitated by Programme Coordinator Olga Krulova.
Throughout the two-day programme, participants explored the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach — a methodology that focuses on the strengths, resources, knowledge, experience, initiatives, and partnerships already existing within communities.
Participants learned about the key principles of ABCD and practiced identifying and mapping community assets. Discussions focused on the importance of trust, leadership, mutual support, and social capital as essential elements for building resilient and inclusive communities.
A particular focus was placed on how cooperation between communities, non-governmental organizations, specialists, and government institutions can contribute to reducing stigma and discrimination, improving access to services, and creating more sustainable support systems.
As part of the training, participants developed their own mini-project ideas, presented their initiatives, and received feedback and recommendations from peers and the facilitator. The practical activities encouraged participants to identify opportunities for community-led solutions and strengthen collaboration among local actors.
The training served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, partnership building, and the development of new ideas aimed at supporting community development and empowerment.
AFEW International and “ISHONCH VA HAYOT” thank all participants for their active engagement, openness, and commitment to strengthening their communities.
Sustainable change begins when people recognize their own strengths, support one another, and become leaders of positive transformation.
