New project to develop advocacy-related skills from TB Europe Coalition

TB Europe Coalition is running a free pilot mentoring project starting in September to develop advocacy-related skills and provide a space for support, growth, and learning for its members in Western and Central Europe. The aim of this project is to bring together advocates from across the region and create a network of support for civil society and TB-affected communities.

Given under-funding of the response to TB, advocates are often running projects with little support. They are working to fulfill multiple roles, etc. Every year, TBEC runs a survey for its members to indicate the resources and support they require. Using this data, specialists have created this project to cover the areas that have been repeatedly highlighted. Participants will work with experts to build their own skills and plan for the future development of their projects.

The course will run for 10 weeks (Free) starting in mid-September until the end of November (exact times and dates for sessions will be dependent on the availability of successful applicants). Sessions will consist of 6 lecture-based webinars with group discussion and 4 sessions of facilitated group work. The course will cover the following topics:

Week 1: Introduction to the Course including Welcome and Goal Setting
Week 2: Overview of CSO Funding & Grant Applications
Week 3: Group work (Development of Funding Strategy)
Week 4: Communication Strategies for Advocacy
Week 5: Group Work (Development of Comms Plan)
Week 6: The Role of Human Rights in Advocacy
Week 7: Group Work
Week 8: EU Advocacy and Parliamentary Engagement
Week 9: Group Work (Development of Engagement Strategy)
Week 10: Conclusion of Course, Lessons Learnt

Each session will last around 90 minutes and take place virtually. Successful applicants will be expected to do work in their own time between sessions in order to prepare for each week.

This is an initial pilot mentoring project and will therefore only be available for 4-6 successful applicants. If the mentoring project proves successful TBEC hopes to continue with more participants in 2022.
