In September AFEW Kyrgyzstan opened “Faith. Hope. Love”, one of the leading rehabilitation centres in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The centre is located in an area of great natural beauty, at the foot of the majestic mountains, not far from the capital.
Partners, donors and organizations friendly to AFEW came to see the centre and understand what it offers to its clients. They saw the rehabilitation programs, the schedule of consultations and shifts, and ensured that the centre is completely ready to meet the first clients; it´s comfortable, modern and equipped with all the necessary equipment, hygiene and household items.
What is the “Faith. Hope. Love” centre?
The rehabilitation centre is a new milestone for AFEW Kyrgyzstan. The centre uses a gender-oriented approach for the treatment of alcohol, drug addiction and rehabilitation of addicts at any stage of their illness. At present, services are provided to each client free of charge, starting with the initial consultation and ending with a three-month rehabilitation. Here, program participants are taught to cope with life’s problems, psychologists help them achieve their potential, as well as work on their strengths and refine those areas of life where support is needed. The rehabilitation centre functions as a support centre offering a full package of non-medical and social services. These include social support, assistance to victims of domestic violence, community reintegration and family rebuilding, emergency shelter, adherence to treatment for people living with HIV or tuberculosis, harm reduction, and activities aimed at developing skills and the economic participation of women who use drugs.
AFEW Kyrgyzstan offers help to those who really need it, which is why the organization has established a referral system from government agencies, and, just as important, from friendly organizations. The activities organized in the Rehabilitation center are partly supported through the programme “Bridging the Gaps: Health and Rights for Key Populations”.
Rehabilitation in Kyrgyzstan is considered one of the hardest to reach services. This is due to the fact that private rehabilitation centres are expensive, and public services, as a rule, are of inferior quality. In the centre “Faith. Hope. Love” these two fundamental aspects – the availability of services and a highly qualified team of specialists – have been combined. Thanks to the experience of the staff of the institution and excellent living conditions, clients can undergo full-fledged rehabilitation with modern approaches to treatment.
