European Testing Week 2025: promoting early detection and access to care across Europe

European Testing Week (ETW) returns in 2025 with renewed commitment to raising awareness of the importance of early testing for HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Taking place from May 19 to May 26, 2025, this pan-European initiative calls on healthcare providers, civil society organizations, policymakers, and the public to unite in promoting accessible and voluntary testing services.

Why testing matters

Early diagnosis plays a critical role in ensuring timely treatment and preventing the onward transmission of infections. Despite advances in treatment and care, many people across Europe remain undiagnosed or are diagnosed too late. European Testing Week is an opportunity to change this reality through targeted outreach, education, and the expansion of community-based testing options.

A collective effort

Since its launch in 2013, European Testing Week has grown into a major health campaign supported by hundreds of organizations across more than 50 countries. Each year, participants organize testing events, awareness campaigns, webinars, and advocacy actions tailored to their local contexts.

ETW 2025 places special emphasis on:

  • Integrated testing services for multiple infections
  • Community-based and peer-led initiatives
  • Digital outreach strategies to reach young people and marginalized groups
  • Reducing stigma and discrimination in healthcare settings

Get involved

Organizations and individuals can register their participation through the official ETW website and gain access to free resources, guidance, and promotional materials. Activities can include:

  • Offering free and anonymous testing
  • Hosting educational workshops or webinars
