Change in management in AFEW International

 We regret to share that Yuri de Boer has resigned as Director of AFEW International to pursue other professional interests.

Under his leadership in 2021 AFEW International

  • further transitioned and adapted to the new COVID-19 reality;
  • developed strategic directions for the organisation’s future contributing to a healthy future in the EECA region in a sustainable way;
  • and continued supporting local organisations through the Emergency Support Fund and the COVID-19 Solidarity Fund, keeping public health concerns as HIV, TB and COVID-19 on the political agenda, as well as addressing the shrinking space for civil society in the EECA region.

We wish him all the best of luck in his future career. Yuliya van Polanen will be appointed by the Supervisory Board of AFEW International as Interim Director per September 2021.

AFEW International continues to advocate for inclusive and human rights based approaches to public health, and invest in strengthening community-based organisations that provide essential social and health services. With the members of the AFEW Partnership in Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and our national partners, we will continue to facilitate dialogue between governments, civil society, scientists and health care providers.
