In the framework of the EU COVID-19 Solidarity Programme for the Eastern Partnership, AFEW International is continuously collecting

Since late spring AFEW Kazakhstan, a partner of AFEW International, has been implementing the project “Protecting the rights of vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic in Almaty”, with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. During the first 2 months of the project the organization managed to help more than 500 Almaty residents!

The Elton John AIDS Foundation is inviting concept notes for grant funding through the RADIAN Model Cities programme to support projects that deliver measurable impact in the response to HIV in eligible Russian regions. Model Cities will be examples for other cities and regions in EECA seeking to end their own HIV epidemics.

As part of the EU COVID-19 Solidarity Programme for Eastern Partnership, AFEW International, People in Need (PIN) and Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC) joint forces to propose set of interventions in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and contribute towards longer term socio-economic resilience of vulnerable groups.

After nearly 13 fantastic years of serving and leading AFEW International in the response to HIV/AIDS, TB and viral hepatitis in Eastern Europe and Central Asia the time has come for me to step down as director.

Since July 2020 an initiative group representing the community of people who use drugs at the Public Association “Bemoni” of the Telavi office in Kakheti, Georgia, have been working on the program “Bridging the Gaps: Health and Rights for Key Populations”. They prepared a pilot project aimed at encouraging the employment of individuals from socially vulnerable groups of the population in Kakheti, as well arming them with the skills necessary for finding job.

In the beginning of September, the Co-Chairs of the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, established by WHO, announced the names of the panelists. Michel Kazatchkine, Chairman of AFEW International’s supervisory board, was selected as one of the members.

Sergey Volkov, a participant of the “Journey4Life Plus” from Kyrgyzstan, told AFEW International how the project helped him overcome both depression and stigma towards people living with HIV.

AFEW International has launched the regional COVID-19 Solidarity Program in the Eastern Partnership countries. This project will support community-based organizations to respond to the immediate and longer-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Eastern Partnership countries.
