On 7 November 2024, the 13th Annual Linking Research, Policy, and Practice Conference transformed the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague into a vibrant hub of ideas and impact. This event, co-organized by AFEW International, ISS, KIT Institute, University of Amsterdam, and University of Groningen, united a diverse group of young researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to tackle pressing issues in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
This year, 12 young researchers took the stage, addressing a wide range of topics shaping SRHR around the globe such as Health challenges for migrant populations in Greece and Taiwan; Economic impacts of China’s gender imbalance; Community well-being among Italy’s Sapphic populations; HIV healthcare access in the Netherlands and Ghana; Menstrual health initiatives in Uganda; Maternal care and obstetric violence in Spain.
Each session offered not only knowledge-sharing but also a critical look at gaps in SRHR research, policy, and practice. Julia Komo on behalf of AFEW International led the session on Power (Im)balance of Rights, discussing how power structures affect access to health and well-being globally.
The conference offered a vital platform for all participants to share insights and drive global SRHR progress. We look forward to continuing these conversations and enhancing our collective efforts in SRHR.
