On 18-19th September, AFEW International participated in the 2nd Edition of the Share-Net Knowledge Product Showcase. This two-day virtual exhibition showcased Share-Net’s Knowledge Products, which address Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues worldwide. It fostered discussions and cross-learning on how to effectively translate knowledge into practice.
The event featured 15 recent grantees who presented their SRHR knowledge products developed over the past year. These products were created through various Share-Net International grants and funding opportunities in 2023 and tackled the unique SRHR needs of diverse communities globally. Topics ranged from chemsex treatment responses and forced marriages in LGBTQIA+ communities to parental support for menstruation and youth empowerment through women’s safety initiatives.
AFEW International was honoured to be the only one representative from the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region, invited to present its groundbreaking study as part of the Knowledge product presentations and discussions. In collaboration with Share-Net Netherlands, AFEW International shared insights from its project, “Bridging the gaps – effective sex treatment response for LGBTQIA+ communities affected by problematic chemsex.”
For reference
Supported by Share-Net International, in August, AFEW International developed a guide for service providers and professionals working with gay, bisexual men, and other men who have sex with men engaged in chemsex in EECA. Based on research conducted in Georgia, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Ukraine, the guide addresses key risk reduction practices and the specific care needs of men involved in chemsex, with a focus on sexual well-being and support. The guide, which will soon be disseminated widely, serves as a vital tool for advancing SRHR and reducing harm in chemsex-affected communities. The guide powered by AFEW will be available shortly online.
This participation highlights AFEW International’s ongoing commitment to promoting SRHR in the EECA region, with a focus on underserved populations.
